Experience Kodiak Island from above! Kingfisher’s one-hour tour begins in the city of Kodiak where you will climb onboard one of our Found Bush Hawk floatplanes in the seaplane harbor. Each passenger will receive a safety briefing about the aircraft and will be provided with a set of voice-activated headsets to be able to communicate with the pilot and other passengers. Your pilot will depart the harbor to begin the scenic 1-hour flight around the northern 1/3 of Kodiak.
The first portion of the flight will take you above the small village of Ouzinkie, which has a population of approximately 170 residents. This community is only a 5-minute flight from Kodiak, but is only accessible by boat or airplane. Next, you will fly over Marmot Bay and Whale Island area where it is common to find whales surfacing if the seas are calm. Your pilot will follow the rugged coastline, down to Terror Bay where it is common to see sea otters swimming in the bay.
Flying up to the head of Terror Bay takes you above Kodiak hydroelectric power facility and into the mountains. It is common to find mountain goats clinging to the shear rock faces, and then you will turn northeast and start the flight back to Kodiak, flying up the eastside of the island over Women’s Bay and the US Coast Guard Station. The pilot will land in Lily Lake and pull up to the dock right in front of our office.
