Recreational Cabins

Kingfisher can provide your floatplane transportation to one of the many recreational cabins located on within the Kodiak Island Archipeligo. The Alaska State Parks and Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge have several public use cabins that are available for rent. Below is a summary and photos of some of those cabins, and please contact us for the current charter rates to those locations.

AFOGNAK ISLAND:
--Pillar Lake Cabin
Sleeps 4 (maximum 6). Activities include hunting, beach combing, hiking, fishing and wildlife viewing. The cabin is located at the south end of Pillar Lake. Access to the cabin is via floatplane, using Pillar Lake for landing. Water access via the saltwater beach south of the cabin is not recommended. Pillar Lake may freeze as early as November 1.
--Laura Lake Cabin Sleeps 6 (maximum 6). Activities include hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The cabin is east of Perenosa Bay on the northern end of Afognak Island, about 2.5 miles from the head of Pauls Lake. Access is via floatplane only, since there are no developed trails from Pauls Bay to the cabin. Laura Lake may freeze as early as November 1
SHUYAK ISLAND:
--Salmon Cove Cabin Sleeps 8 (maximum 8). Salmon Cove offers a great combination of hunting and fishing opportunities. This cabin is located in Big Bay, which offers good kayaking and hiking.
--Eagle's Nest Cabin Sleeps 8 (maximum 8). This is the most popular cabin in the park and is located in Big Bay. Eagle's Nest lies half way between two salmon streams. A trail leads from the cabin to both streams. This is a great family cabin.
--Mulcahy View Cabin Sleeps 8 (maximum 8). This cabin is located on Neketa Bay. The bay is isolated, quiet, and serene. It offers great kayaking with good access to the outer coast and Shelikof Straits. Wildlife, including birds, is plentiful. Seals, otters, and dolphins often visit, and puffins, as well as eagles, nest just outside the bay. There are foot trails from the cabin to the outer coast and to the ranger station on Big Bay.
--Deer Haven Cabin Sleeps 8 (maximum 8). The area is excellent for kayaking. There are good salmon fishing streams one mile to the south (access to these is best by boat). This is one of the most popular cabins for deer hunters. Cabin users may also find excellent beach combing on the outer coast. Whales, otters, sea lions, and many kinds of seabirds can be viewed from the entrance to Carry Inlet.

Cabin reservations are scheduled by lottery The deadline for application receipt is the last business day before adrawing date. April, May June: Due by JANUARY. July, August, September: Due by APRIL. October, November, December: Due by JULY. After the lottery, cabins are available on a fist come, first served basis andcan be reserved by phone. No person listed on a successful application may stay in any additional cabin during the same quarter. Maximum length of stay restrictions apply.

KODIAK ISLAND:
--Viekoda Bay (Rolling Point) Cabin
Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, or cookstove; has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 10' X 12' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Pink salmon and Dolly Varden, some -July and August (from beaches). Hunting: Bear hunting, fair Deer hunting, good -fall to early winter Duck hunting, fair. Photography: Excellent for wildlife in marine estuaries and alpine habitats. Water: Fresh water stream by the cabin. Boil all drinking water.
--Uganik Island Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, or cookstove; has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 10' X 12' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Pink salmon and Dolly Varden, some -July and August (from beaches). Hunting: Bear hunting, fair -spring and fall Deer hunting, good -October through December Waterfowl hunting, fair. Photography: Excellent for wildlife in marine estuaries and alpine habitat. Water: Stream about 1/4 miles east of cabin. Boil all drinking water.
--Uganik Lake Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 12' X 14' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Pink salmon, good -Aug. Coho, good -Aug -Oct. Rainbow, fair -Jun -Nov. Sockeye, good -Jun -Aug. Dolly Varden, excellent -Apr -Nov . Hunting: Bear hunting, good Deer hunting, good. Photography: Good for bear, eagles, and scenery. Water: Creek about 20 yards from cabin. Boil all drinking water.
--Little River Lake Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, or cookstove; has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 12' X 20' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Sockeye, good -Jut Dolly Varden, good -April- Nov Coho, fair- Sep -Nov Rainbow, fair -Jun -Nov. Hunting: Bear hunting, good Deer hunting, -excellent to good -early season. Photography Good for wildlife species in a subalpine environment. Excellent scenery. Water: Lake or river water is drinkable, but may be cloudy. Boil all drinking water.
--North Frazer Lake Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, or cookstove; has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 12' X 20' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Sockeye, good -July. Dolly Varden, good -April- Nov. Hunting: Bear hunting, good. Deer hunting, fair. Excellent scenery. Water: Creek 50 yards from cabin. Boil all drinking water.
--South Frazer Lake Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, or cookstove; has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 12' X 20' Bunks: 5 Heater: Kerosene. Fishing: Sockeye, excellent - July - Aug. Dolly Varden, excellent -April- Nov Steelhead, good- Sep -Nov Rainbow, fair -Jun -Nov. Hunting: Bear hunting, good Deer hunting, - good. Photography excellent for bears, eagles, and some fox, otter & weasels. Excellent scenery. Water: Small creek about 200 yards south of cabin. Boil all drinking water.

--Blue Fox Bay Cabin Primitive conditions -no electricity, plumbing, has outhouse style pit toilet, separate meat cache. Size: 12' X 20' Bunks: 4 Heater: Kerosene Fishing Pink salmon, fair -late July and August. Hunting: Bear hunting, fair Deer hunting, good. Photography: Excellent for tidepools and shoreline. Water: Fresh water 50 yards from the cabin; easiest access is at low tide. Boil all drinking water.
